When is the best time for your yacht charter in Phuket?

All year round the waters surrounding Phuket offer ideal sailing conditions.

November to April is the peak season with favorable winds from the NE with wind conditions of around 8 – 15 knots
During the South-West monsoon, May to October, the green season, the winds are generally stronger 10 – 25 knots. This is also the time when some Yacht regattas such as Phuket Race Week and the Multihull Regatta take place.

The popular Phang Nga Bay, Krabi islands, like the Phi Phi Islands, Chicken & Poda islands are best to explore all year round as there is always a safe anchorage nearby.

The southern islands such as Ko Lanta, Ko Rok, Ko Tarutao and the Butang islands are better to be visited during the winter month when the North-East monsoon provides better protection at your anchorages.

The Similan and Surin Islands are perfectly safe for a sailing holiday and amazing to discover. Both are Marine National Parks and are closed to visitors from 15. May to 15. October.

Simply YES, all charter boats in Thailand get checked annually by the Thai authorities to stay registered and third-party insurance is compulsory.

Additionally, most of the yachts have basic tourist insurance, as per Thai regulations.

However, we strongly recommend obtaining a travel insurance.

Is it safe to charter a yacht in Phuket?

All of the boats in our fleet exceed the safety regulations of the Thai government by far.

Phuket and surrounding islands are well clear of the typhoon belt area, which means we will never have severe tropical storms here.

People sometimes wonder about pirates in Phuket. Well, the last ones we saw, were at our youngest son’s birthday party when he turned 7.
